Event Description

It’s time to kick the tires and light the fires, cause Pliny the Younger Day takes off once again on Monday, February 17 beginning at Noon. Monk’s annual fundraiser benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand features Russian River Brewing Company‘s famed Triple IPA, Pliny the Younger, which is only brewed once a year. Philadelphia is the only market east of Denver to receive Russian River beer, and we are keen to once again raise beaucoup bucks for one of Philly’s best nonprofits by pouring this annual rare brew. Last year’s event raised $22,000 and we are fired up to beat that total this year!

HOW IT WORKS: One hundred percent of the menu price of Pliny the Younger and 25 more rare and exciting draft beers are CASH ONLY, and one hundred percent of that money is donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand to aid their work finding cures for pediatric cancer.  As soon as you walk in the door, you exchange cash for your Pliny pour.  Everyone who comes to this event gets a Pliny the Younger. Do not sweat it. Even if the line is long, we shall not run out. Trust the Process.

Stay tuned to this space and socials (@MonksCafePhilly on Insta, FB and Twitter) for draft list updates!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(please read this before you tweet, FB message, call or otherwise contact Monk’s)

WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO GET IN LINE?  Only you can answer this question for yourself.  Some people get in line at 8am for a Noon event open.  There will be a line all day long, but everyone who gets inside Monk’s will get a Pliny the Younger.  We aren’t going to run out. Don’t Panic. Dress warmly. Please return all chairs, etc. to your vehicle before you come inside.

CAN WE DO BOTTLE SHARES IN LINE?  Philadelphia and Pennsylvania do not allow open containers in public. Please keep this in mind in line.  If we see visible beer bottles we will ask you to put them away. Don’t leave trash outside on our neighbors’ doorsteps. Be cool, man.

WHY CAN’T I USE A CREDIT CARD?  We donate 100% of all draft beer sales to our nonprofit partner, Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Paying credit card fees on top of a donation is not viable. Our ATM will be stocked, but please plan ahead and bring cash.

HOW MUCH PLINY THE YOUNGER DO YOU HAVE?  We have enough to serve everyone who comes to this event. You won’t be thirsty.

CAN I BUY A GROWLER OF YOUNGER?  Hell no! We don’t have a counterpressure growler filler and also, lulz, this stuff is like gold. It’s not for some nerd to resell on a secondary site all flat and disappointing. Just drink it and enjoy the moment.

See you on Presidents’ Day! Drink beer, do good!
